1. At least 500 individuals require custom prostheses a day

Were you aware that a minimum of 200 to 500 amputations take place each day worldwide? 30% of these individuals undergo limb loss due to mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety. Additionally, nearly 70% of amputations result from diabetes and cardiovascular problems.

2. The Prosthesis You Choose Depends on Your Lifestyle

Various factors are taken into account, such as your lifestyle preferences and health conditions. Your weight, age, and mobility are factors that are considered when determining the most suitable prosthesis for you. Our licensed-certified prosthetists at Integrity will help determine the right prosthetic for your lifestyle.

3. It is possible to wear high heels with a prosthetic limb.

Women can wear high-heeled shoes with their custom prostheses. A lot of prostheses come with articulated ankles, enabling the wearer to modify the height using a push-button, thereby making it possible to wear heels. Certain prostheses even permit wearing heels as high as 4 inches!

4. You Use a “Stump Shrinker” With Prosthetics

The stump is the part of the limb where the amputation took place. Amputees employ various methods to avoid swelling in this area. One innovative approach involves using a "stump shrinker," which is a compression sock that prevents swelling when the prosthesis is not in use. These socks are crafted for a comfortable fit and exert pressure on the stump's soft tissues. They can be worn continuously for up to 24 hours.

5. The Use of Prostheses Can Lead to Phantom Limb Sensation

Are you aware of what phantom sensation is? It is a sensation that gives the impression that a limb is still part of your body even though it has been amputated. This sensation can persist even when using custom prosthetic limbs. If you are going through this, know that it is completely normal.

6. Prosthetics should not HURT.

If you're prostheses brings you pain or discomfort, that is not normal. They should not hurt. At Integrity, our goal is to create and fit a prosthesis that does not hurt, but rather is comfortable and provides you with the mobility you want to achieve. If your prosthesis does hurt or you've been told the pain is something you have to get used to, please come see Integrity and experience the difference for yourself.
